I'd had pretty ideal preparation coming into the Tour de Bintan, but a heavy training crash just thirteen days before the race left me with a fractured scapula and hundreds of stitches in my head. Racing was suddenly the furthest thing from my mind. On the positive side it put me in an ideal position to document the Tour de Bintan from the front of the race. . . on a motorbike for Metasport.

In 2011 Champion System, the Hong Kong based manufacturer of sporting apparel, launched its own UCI Continental cycling team. Led by veteran racer and Tour de France stage winner Jaan Kirsipuu, the Eurasian team competed in a large number of races in Asia, the USA and Europe. They showed strongly in several with stage wins in the Tour of Korea (Kirsipuu) and points jersey successes at the OCBC criterium in Singapore (Matthias Friedemann) and the Tour of Taiwan (Mart Ojavee). Estonian Ojavee also picked up the Estonian national champion’s jersey.
