I started setting up the Polar CS600x at 9:13pm. The first step was going on the Polar website to learn how to install the computer. I then double checked on how to install the bike mount by clicking on a link. Amazingly simple.

History To offer readers a brief history, around 1975 there became a demand to measure heart rate for athletes in cross-country skiing. At that time, there was no portable device available to measure heart rate duriing training. Just over one year later, POLAR was founded near the city of Oulu, Finland. In this challenging environment, Polar began testing its products.
725x on the left compared to the CS600x right In 1979 POLAR filed its first patent for wireless heart rate measurement and by 1982 they were able to launch the first ever wire free, wearable heart rate monitor. This effectively changed the way athletes trained forever. Polar has been involved in makiing heart rate monitors since 1977 and was one of the companies that could be accredited with some of the major training innovations for cyclists and many other endurance athletes. Like many sports companies, Polar started as a relatively small operation in 1977 to a business that today employs 1200 people globally with a network of 35,000 retail outlets in more than 80 countries!

Reality Look In years gone by Polar had a reputation for making oversized watches (see photos of the 725x above) that allowed others to immediately determine you were a cyclist, triathlete or runner. It got to the point where being seen in public wearing one was a major fashion mistake. Luckily the CS600x cannot be worn on your wrist and needs to stay firmly affixed to your bike! On a more positive note, Polars' newer models of heart rate monitors in watch format do come with very sleek and very cool designs (that can easily be worn in public).
The CS600x is only slightly thicker than the Nokia E71 - a skinny phone!
This model is aimed at competitive and elite level cyclists so the look is decidedly minimalist which is a good thing. It is easy to operate with one finger and easy to change between screens during hard training and races.

Set up I started setting this product up at 9:13 pm in the evening. I attached the fork and wheel magnets easily, but I couldn’t ‘teach’ the new sensor so I went to bed at 9:30pm. I was immensely impressed with the Polar Website - each step of setting up the computer was easy to understand and visually represented on this site. Eventually, with a bit of 'fiddling' I got everything working and each of the sensors 'taught'. Total set up time was 1 hour.
The Polar is pretty straight forward to use and navigation is easy. While riding the computer reacts quickly and is very accurate (according to the scooter I had to motor pace to check speed). In use, this product has had a lot of characteristics we typically look for: ease of installation, light, easy to use, easy to understand, and it doesn't make a mess of your bike with wires. The Polar Protrainer software was very easy to install with an included CD and provided a huge amount of feedback and measurement in an easy to understand layout.
