Welcome to Shi Jie Monday where we bring you the week in review from the world of cycling.

Britain: Last week the route of The 2010 Tour of Britain was unveiled. It will visit several regions of the U.K. it has never visited during what the organizers say is its hardest route in the last seven years. The September 11-18 event will visit Suffolk, Norfolk (for you folks . . ) and Essex for the first time and revisiting Wales for the first time since the revival of the event in 2004.

The 2010 Route

Stage 1 will set off from Rochdale and finish in the seaside resort of Blackpool.
Stage 2 starts and finishes in Stoke-on-Trent, with a hard days racing through the North Staffordshire countryside, including the infamous Gun Hill.
Stage 3 visits Wales and head up Constitution Hill before the finish in Swansea.
Stages 4 and 5 see the race move into the South West where the race saw some of it's biggest crowds in 2008 and 2009.
Stage 6 moves into to the East of England, visiting Norfolk for the longest stage at 189 kilometers.
Stage 7, and the final stage sees the peloton race from Suffolk’s Bury St Edmunds to Essex’s Colchester. The final day of racing will see the riders take on a new circuit in the London borough of Newham, host of the London Olympic and Para-Olympic games 2012.

Belgium: Philippe Gilbert brought Omega Pharma-Lotto's eight month dry spell of victories to a dramatic end at the Amstel Gold Race on Sunday afternoon. The Belgian put in a ferocious attack on the final ascent of the Cauberg to claim victory several bike lengths clear of Ryder Hesjedal (Garmin-Transtions), who sprinted past Enrico Gasparotto (Astana) in the closing meters of the race. Some riders were forced to miss Amstel Gold because of the Volcano eruption in Iceland. Alejandro Valverde (Caisse d’Epargne), Carlos Sastre (Cervélo) and Bradley Wiggins (Sky) are among several riders to have pulled out of Sunday’s edition of the Amstel Gold Race after encountering problems getting flights to the Netherlands. Spain: Alberto Contador (Astana) coasted in with the main group Sunday to secure overall victory at the five-day Vuelta a Castilla y León in northern Spain. Contador crossed the line 21st to wrap up a solid week in Spain and earn his third stage-race victory in four events so far in 2010. Contador won Saturday’s individual time trial to take a 41-second lead to second-place finisher Igor Antón (Euskaltel-Euskadi). Ezequiel Mosquera (Xacobeo-Galicia) finished third overall at 1:20 back.

Belgium: While the 74th Flèche Wallonne classic was being brilliantly won on Wednesday afternoon by BMC Racing’s World Champion Cadel Evans ahead of the Spanish climbers Joaquin Rodriguez, Alberto Contador and Igor Anton, a more worrisome uphill sprint was being played out 1,000km away in the Dolomites of Italy. There, in the ski town of San Martino di Castrozza, the podium of the Giro del Trentino’s second stage was occupied by three riders who recently came off long doping suspensions, Riccardo Riccò, Alexander Vinokourov and Ivan Basso. That's pretty twisted . . . however we are very excited that Cadel Evans seems to be coping quite well with 'The Curse of the Rainbow Jersey'! Yay Cadel!

Men's podiem at Flèche Wallonne

Italy: Swiss rider Thomas Frei has been withheld from competition by BMC Racing team management after he returned an A sample positive for the banned blood booster, EPO. The 25-year-old had finished ninth in stage two of the Giro del Trentino, won by Italian rider Riccardo Riccó, to move into sixth overall. Frei was withdrawn from the event immediately pending the return of his B sample.
