Podium girls are the wonder of the Tour de France. And the luckiest Podium Girls? The Yellow Jersey Girls - they kiss the wearer of the yellow jersey every day!

During the Tour Miss France stepped in for a trick on the podium

In France, you don't ask girls or ladies for their age but Elisabeth and Magali are in their early twenties. For the first and fourth time respectively, they are "yellow jersey hostesses" at the Tour de France.

"This is an exceptional experience", Elisabeth says with a large smile and eyes wide open.

How do they get selected for such a glamorous job?

"It starts with sending its resume to Sophie and then wait and hope for a positive answer after going for an audition with her."

Sophie Moressée-Pichot was an Olympic champion for fencing in Atlanta in 1996. She's now in charge of the communication department of French bank LCL, formerly Crédit Lyonnais, which is the main sponsor of the Tour for an approximate contribution of 5 million euros.

"Our day at the Tour de France starts with the hospitality of 20 guests at the starting village", Magali explains.

"They are VIP, so we welcome them with coffee, newspapers and of course a smile! They have to have a nice morning with us before they take place in a car driven by a former professional cyclist who will help them to enjoy the show."

"Our other important task at the Tour village is to distribute the daily newspapers to the reporters", Elisabeth adds.

"When we've finished our job at the Tour village, we drive the course of the stage", Elisabeth continues. "We never take the alternative route. We fully enjoy the atmosphere of the Tour with the fans who can all see us as well. Once we reach the finish, we take care of other guests around the podium and we go to the protocol area, get dressed and have our make up done for looking good on stage. We appear just before the race leader and deliver to him the yellow jersey and the lion."

"Riders are great but the time we spend with them is only a few seconds per a day", Magali says. That was enough for Christophe Moreau to meet Emilie who was one of the "yellow jersey hostesses" when he got the yellow jersey after the prologue back in 2001. She's now his wife and the mother of their two children.

George Hincapie's wife is French. She was a podium girl at the Tour de France as well. So smetimes winning a stage at the Tour has a special bonus!
